2018 brings the 1000 Islands Writers Festival into its fourth fabulous year, and to build on our success we are bringing together another talented group of Canadian authors and illustrators who will appeal to all ages and interests. In addition to favorite events like the Living Room Sessions, 2018 will include new sessions for songwriters, events for families with young children, and a community celebration of local authors that will bring the 1000 island spirit to life through stories and songs.
Since our first festival in 2015, our Honorary Festival Patron, two-time Leacock Medal winner Terry Fallis, has played a pivotal role in our festival. Terry’s sense of humour combined with his clever eloquence have endeared him to Canadians from coast to coast. Our hearts tie quickly to the plights of his characters, and the laughter he draws from us with each new exploit leaves us all craving more.
We are so pleased that Terry is returning to delight his many fans here in the 1000 Islands this spring. We look forward to opening night when he helps lead our celebration of reading, music and visual art in Stories | A Matter of Life and Death. Expect thoroughly entertaining conversations with authors Maureen Jennings (Murdoch Mysteries, Tom Tyler Mysteries), Matt James (Northwest Passage, The FUNeral), Ken Cuthbertson (The Halifax Explosion: Canada’s Worst Disaster), Heather Smith (Agony of Bun O’Keefe, Ebb & Flow) and Marissa Stapley (Things to Do When It’s Raining, Mating for Life). The night will come to life with performances by Gananoque singer-songwriter Kevin Head and Miss V and short readings by Barbara Fradkin (Inspector Green Mysteries, Amanda Doucette Mysteries), Kelley Armstrong (Rockton and Cainsville series’), Katherine Ashenburg (Sofie & Cecilia, The Mourner’s Dance: What We Do When People Die) and Vikki VanSickle (The Winnowing, If I Had a Gryphon).
In our schedule you will find information about our Living Room Sessions, Workshops, Songwriters Showcase, Meal Engagements and more.
What a wonderful way to enjoy a spring weekend… We look to having you join us for more Reading by the River!
